Val Laymon has been in love with McLean County ever since she moved here nearly twenty years ago from Springfield to attend Illinois State University. At ISU, she was involved in groups that spoke to her values, like the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance and PRIDE, where she held the roles of President and Vice President.
She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts after studying English and Women’s Studies. For the past fourteen years, she has been a Senior Manager in learning and development. Her unique experience in her field includes creating and delivering leadership development workshops for managers of all levels across the country.
Outside of work, Val is an active member of Hope Church in Bloomington and volunteers with its staffing and hospitality committees. She is a passionate supporter of the Methodist Church’s IGRC for Unity movement. A lover of animals, Val and her wife Jean have spent the last two years fostering dozens of dogs for Pet Central Helps.
Val is a proud member of the McLean County Democrats. In addition to volunteering with multiple campaigns and assisting in election preparation over the last eighteen months, she sits on the Events Committee.
She has also been an election judge for multiple election cycles. Val is excited to bring respect, compassion, and her infectious joy to the grassroots level of McLean County politics.
