Meet Val
Val is a two-term McLean County Board member, elected to office in 2020. She is currently Chair of the Property Committee, Vice Chair of the Finance Committee, and member of the Rules Subcommittee. During her time on the Board, she has prioritized equitable pay for McLean County Sheriff’s Department, State’s Attorney, and Health Department employees. Her accomplishments also include supporting the use of green energy in county-owned facilities and making sure vital infrastructure repairs are performed now, before they become more expensive down the road.
She moved to McLean County from Springfield 25 years ago to attend ISU and quickly fell in love with the community. She is currently a senior manager in talent development.
Outside of work, she fosters dogs through Pet Central Helps with her wife Jean and is an active member of Bloomington’s Hope Church leadership team, as well as a hospitality volunteer. A lover of the outdoors, she can often be found kayaking at COMLARA Park, scuba diving, and hiking. She believes strongly in environmental preservation.
Val is a proud member of the McLean County Democrats, and has volunteered with multiple campaigns, events, and programs over the years. She has also served as an election judge for multiple election cycles.
Val is excited to be reelected to the McLean County Board and continue championing responsibility, sustainability, and equity.
Val’s Priorities
equity
Our community has an affordable housing crisis. I will work with local jurisdictions and organizations to expand affordable housing options.
As your two-term County Board representative, I supported equitable pay for employees in the McLean County Sheriff’s office, State’s Attorney office, and Health Department.
Everyone should have affordable access to mental health services. I will continue to prioritize underserved populations and ensure gaps in service are closed.
responsibility
Being fiscally responsible means taking care of our vital infrastructure now instead of kicking the can down the road.
I have prioritized long-deferred maintenance to the McLean County Nursing Home, COMLARA Park, and McLean County Museum of History.
As chair of the Property Committee, I support the relocation and rebuilding of our Animal Control facility, which will help animals in need and make it easier for employees to perform their jobs.
sustainability
McLean County is a top producer of renewable energy in Illinois. In using green energy in county-owned facilities, we’re keeping energy rates flat while leading by example. As your representative on the County Board, I’ve fought for common-sense energy efficiency enhancements in our buildings, which saves you money — now and in the future.
